What’s in a name?

What’s in a Name?

We have been asked numerous times, “How did you come up with the name, River of Life?

Initially the scriptures John 7:38-39 spoke to my husband and myself. They read:

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow RIVERS OF LIVING WATER. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive… ) To us there is no greater gift than that of receiving the Holy Spirit. Nothing can compare to or is more wonderful than this experience, and it is truly a River of Life flowing out from you. Thus from these scriptures came our name.

The fact that the beautiful city of Oswego is situated with the Oswego River running directly through it, sealed the destiny of the name we had chosen, River of Life. It seemed to fit.

Down the road, the Lord confirmed to us that indeed, we had chosen a prophetic name for the church. We came to learn that the word Oswego derives from the Iroquoian Indian word osh-we-geh, meaning “pouring-out place” . To us, that was and still is exciting! It is amazing how the Lord works! We understand that in the last days the Lord will pour out his spirit upon all flesh. It is not a coincidence that all of this fits so well together. The Lord is pouring out his Spirit at the River of Life, and truly the city of Oswego is ripe and ready to receive the Holy Spirit. It is the pouring out place! Come to the River of Life and experience for yourself the awesome pouring out of his Spirit!
